Wilbur released because of poor hands

The reason punter Eric Wilbur was released had little to do with his punting.

According to Rex Ryan, Wilbur has the ability to punt in the league, but needs to work on his hands.

Wilbur was having trouble holding on to some punt snaps, and was shaky as a holder for field goals.

Perhaps the Jets should have given Wilbur some time to work out the kinks since he was out of football for a year.

But what hurt Wilbur was how good T.J. Conley is at handling the ball. His holding for field goals in nearly flawless.

It was kind of strange move bringing back Reggie Hodges to take Wilbur's roster spot. The Jets cut Hodges, who punted for them last season, because they grew tired of his punting inconsistency.

But Hodges is a very good holder.

Something Wilbur needs to work on.
