Smith feels all the hard work throughout the off-season helped pave the way for his success at minicamp.
"I think it's getting more comfortable in the defense, talking to guys like Jimmy (Leonhard) and Dig (James Ihedigbo)," said Smith. "It's just a lot of talking. Everybody's on the same page and it makes things easier for guys to get in and make plays."
From the first minicamp to the last, Smith feels he took a quantum leap.
"I feel 10 times better going from the first minicamp and trying to learn everything," said Smith. "I was feeling like I was playing real slow and not up to my ability. Now, I'm pretty comfortable with the defense. I feel like I am playing a lot faster and as a result; making more plays."
Smith has definitely caught the attention of Ryan and the defensive coaches, and while he won't start, should see a lot of time, especially with Leonhard involved with punt returns.
As for his hamstring injury from the last minicamp, it's not considered serious, and he should be 100 percent by camp.
