Jets make punting change official

The New York Jets have signed free agent P Steve Weatherford and have waived P A.J. Trapasso. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Weatherford (P/6-3/210/Illinois/Terre Haute, IN) has been in the NFL for three seasons, playing in 46 games for New Orleans, Kansas City and Jacksonville. In his career, he has a gross average of 43.4 yards on 199 punts. He originally signed with New Orleans as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 16, 2006 and played in 39 games before he was waived on Oct. 20, 2008. Weatherford was claimed off waivers by Kansas City on Oct. 22, 2008 and punted in two games before he was waived on Nov. 4, 2008. Jacksonville signed him as a veteran free agent on Nov. 25, 2008, where he punted in the final five games. He was released Sept. 5, 2009.
