"Everything is going according to schedule," said source close to the Dolphins. "He's hoping to be able to throw (more than just toss) in a couple of weeks."
What does the future hold for the soon to be (March 4) free agent quarterback?
"As for his future, there's no question in my mind that he's playing in 2010," said the source. "He has gone on record as saying he's vacillating between going back to the Dolphins as a backup or looking for a starting job somewhere, but I find it hard to believe he's not going to want to be a starter again if the right team (Arizona?) calls."
What are the chances of him going back to the Dolphins?
"From the Dolphins' standpoint, I'm not 100 percent sure they want to bring him back because having him around might make Henne look over his shoulder -- and that's even though there's probably not a better team guy than Pennington," said the source. "So my guess is he's playing in 2010, but for another team."
What about the Jets?
"I'd be shocked if it was the Jets," said the source.
The source makes a good point about the Pennington-to-the-Jets story. Why would Pennington go to the Jets, a team that didn't treat him that great later in his tenure with the club?
Pennington always says the right things, but don't you think he's still a little ticked off at the Jets for the whole Favre circus in the summer of 2008 when they left him twisting in the wind? And the season before that, he was benched in the middle of the season in favor of Kellen Clemens. Pennington is clearly much better than Clemens.
It would it would be shocking if Pennington signed with the Jets.
Look for him to sign with a team that will give him a chance to start like Arizona or maybe Minnesota (if Favre retires).
