Jets showing interest in small school OT

Indianapolis - The Jets are showing a lot of interest in a massive OT from a small school.

Jets Confidential has learned that the team has been spending a great deal of time scouting Hillsdale College (MI) left tackle Jared Veldheer.

The Jets scouted him at Texas vs. Nation All-Star game and checked out a few Hillsdale games last fall.

A league source puts it this way - "[Veldheer] has had a lot of contact with the Jets."

He is a 6-8, 320 pound left tackle, who might move to the right side in the NFL, who reportedly can run under 5.0 in the forty and is tremendous in the weight room.

Considering how lightly recruited he was out of high school, it's amazing what a quantum leap he has taken.

"It's absolutely exciting to be a guy from Hillsdale invited to the combine," said Veldheer. "No one, myself included, would have believed this could happen when I showed up at Hillsdale as a freshman. I have to pinch myself."

If the Jets picked Veldheer, they would obviously move him to right tackle, where he would be the heir apparent to Damien Woody.

He likely will go in the second round or third round.
