There are several teams, like the Washington Redskins, who seem likely to offer him more than the Jets. Thomas, who lives year round on Long Island, has made it clear he wants to stay. He had a meeting with Herm Edwards this week and made that clear. However the only way he can stay is if he takes less money from the Jets, and that's unlikely to happen.
"We want Randy back, but there might be some better offers, so he will have to make a decision on," said Jets GM Terry Bradway. "I'm trying to be realistic."
If Thomas goes, the Jets will likely replace him with second year player Jon Goodwin who took 98 snaps last year . . .
There is a good shot that Laveranues Coles will play this year under a one year tender, and then take his chances as an unrestricted free agent next year. Both sides are far apart on contract talks . . .
The Jets have uncomfortable situation to deal with regarding free agents Jerald Sowell and Richie Anderson. They want them both back, but they are both represented by the same agent (Tony Agnone). How does Agnone balance the money to make both players happen? They player who is going to likely lose in this scenario is Anderson. Sowell is younger, and the Jets likely won't offer Anderson much more than the veteran minimum. It's a virtual lock that Sowell will be back, but Anderson is 50-50 . . .
Safety Nick Ferguson wasn't given a contract tender, so he's a long-shot to comeback. If the Jets don't add a couple of new safeties this off-season, there is still a chance Ferguson could come back closer to the summer . . .
It looks like Mo Lewis will be back with the Jets next season. Negotiations on a re-worked contract are going well.
"Both sides are on the same page," said Bradway. "Mo has been great. He is in no danger of being cut." . . .
If the Jets continue to deem John Hall's contract demands to be too high, there are four free agent kickers on their radar screen - Wade Richey, Doug Brien, Paul Ettinger and Neil Rackers. The latter two are restricted free agents, so Richie and Brien would be easier to sign . . .
Vinny Testaverde had off-season foot surgery.
