Jets waive punter

Matt Turk gets the boot

The New York Jets announced today they have waived punter
Matt Turk.  The announcement was made by Jets' General Manager Terry
Bradway.

Turk, a 6-5, 235-pound punter from Wisconsin-Whitewater, punted 63 times for
2,584 yards (41.0) with a 34.9 net yard per punt average last season.  In
eight NFL seasons, Turk has totaled 624 punts for 26,756 yards (42.9 avg.)
with a long of 77 yards, and has placed 197 punts inside the 20.

Jets Confidential asked Bradway about Turk's status in late February and this was the response - "Turk is our punter right now.  I think Matt was a little disappointed in how he kicked, but I think he's got enough talent that he can kick and he's our punter.  I know he's got a good relationship with Mike and I would expect him to be better."
