Jets' 2003 Preseason Schedule

The 2002 AFC East Champion New York Jets today announced their 2003 pre-season schedule.

The Jets will open the pre-season in the American Bowl against the Super
Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, August 2 in the first
pre-season NFL game of the 2003 season.  The game will mark the first time
that Jets' Head Coach Herman Edwards will lead his team against the team he
served as an assistant head coach/secondary coach from 1996-2000.

The Jets will return home to face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, August
10 at the Meadowlands in a rare daytime pre-season game.  Kickoff is
scheduled for 1:00 p.m.  The last time the Jets faced the Bengals in a
preseason game was on August 25, 1995 and may best be remembered as the
place where then-rookie free agent Wayne Chrebet made his first career start
on the NFL level.  Chrebet has gone on to catch the third most passes in
Jets' history (507) for the fourth most yards (6,526).  The Jets-Bengals'
all-time series is tied at 3-3.

The Jets will also host the New Orleans Saints on Saturday, August 16 in an
8:00 p.m. contest.  The Jets lead the all-time preseason series, 4-2, and
most recently played at the Meadowlands on July 27, 2000.  The 24-20 Jets'
win marked the debut of Saints' Head Coach Jim Haslett, who led the Saints
to the NFC West Division that season.

The annual New York Jets-New York Giants' pre-season tilt will be held on
Saturday, August 23 with a 8:00 p.m. kickoff at the Meadowlands.  The Jets,
winners of the last seven preseason meetings between the two Clubs, will be
the visiting team this season in the annual series between the two rivals.
The Jets lead the all-time series, 17-16-1.

The Jets will conclude the 2003 preseason at Philadelphia on Thursday,
August 28 in a 7:30 p.m. game vs. the NFC East champion Eagles.  The Jets
defeated the Eagles in 2002 and will be just the second visiting team to
play at Lincoln Financial Field, the new home of the Eagles.

Under Head Coach Herman Edwards, the Jets own a 6-2 preseason schedule and
were one of just two NFL teams in 2002 to go undefeated in the preseason.
The Atlanta Falcons were also undefeated and joined the Jets in advancing to
the postseason.

Training camp for the 2003 season will begin July 21 at the Jets' complex on
the campus of Hofstra University.
