Four Quarters: Jets Lose To Giants 31-16

A break down of the key plays coming from Monday night's preseason opener.

East Rutherford, N.J. – Miss something from tonight's game? Four quarters presents you a look at the action you may have missed if you stopped for a cold drink or a bathroom break during tonight's pre-season opener, a 31-16 loss by the Jets to the Giants:

1ST QUARTER: The Jets had a good start to their first pre-season game as Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson as ground and pound has returned for a second straight season. After the Giants opened the scoring following a Sanchez interception, the Jets capitalized on a long drive as they caught the Giants with too many men on the field. Sanchez took the snap for a quick pitch to Brad Smith on a four-yard catch and walk, to punctuate a 14 play, 68 yard drive that took 8:42 off the clock.

2nd Quarter: The Jets decided to throw the ball to start the 2nd quarter as Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards made nice grabs to get towards the end zone, but could only muster a field goal. Defense played well rushing Eli Manning. A combined total elimination on Manning from an accidental Brandon Jacobs left shoulder to the chin, followed by a hit from behind by Calvin Pace (that caused a helmet pop on Manning) then an accidental forearm smash that gave Eli a three-inch laceration to the forehead that caused some bleeding. Mark Sanchez played the full first half for the Jets and looked commanding after the interception toss.

3rd Quarter: Santonio Holmes got his first bunch of reps in the third, going for four catches and a total of 55 yards. He just missed grabbing a homerun pass from Kellen Clemens for 30 yards as the ball just slipped through his fingers in the end zone. He will be an explosive player this season coming from the Steelers. Joe McKnight made some decent runs including an eight yard run for a first down while breaking away from a tackle. But all of a sudden Victor Cruz makes a great one handed catch while over Dwight Lowery for a 64 yard grab and run for the touchdown.

4th Quarter: Victor Cruz made another spectacular running catch this as he beats Drew Coleman down the near sideline for a 34 yard catch and run touchdown. The Jets made a late drive but failed to punch it in as penalties killed the march down the field.
