Report: Packers may match Diggs deal

LionsFans.com has learned that the Green Bay Packers are mulling over the decision whether or not to match an offer to linebacker Na'il Diggs. Diggs, a restricted free-agent, signed a contract over the weekend with the Lions.

Reports from the Green Bay front office are saying that the Packers feel they would not be in any cap danger if they matched the offer sheet the Lions got LB Na'il Diggs to sign.

Despite the Lions frontloading the contract, Green Bay thinks that it would still be safe from a salary cap standpoint to match the offer. This would leave the OLB spot open once again, likely pushing Detroit to just draft a player to fill the spot after missing out on other candidates such as Mike Peterson.

The Packers matching the offer is still contigent on whether or not they re-sign DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamilla. His contract could make matching the offer sheet for Diggs a non-decision. If Green Bay were put in the position to choose between their stud DE and what was regarded as their best LB from last year, it is likely they would choose KGB.

The Packers have until Saturday to decide on whether to match the offer sheet for Diggs.
