It's about time.

After 10 years of being exempt from the Monday night slot, the Detroit Lions finally escaped prime-time purgatory, and seem to have earned their way back into the graces of the league's schedule makers.

Kind of.

In the team's 2011 schedule release, Detroit will host division rival Chicago on October 10. The contest will be televised on ESPN, and serve as the club's fifth game of the year and second home stand. However, fame comes with a price. The cumulative record of Detroit's 2011 opponents  from last season was 133-123-0, making it the league's fourth toughest schedule according to

There is also no guarantee that there will even be a season, considering the NFL and its players remain at an impasse with labor negotiations.

The Lions finished the 2010 year 6-10, which included a four-game winning streak to end the season.

Although the team has maintained its traditional Turkey Day rights dating back to 1934, they are the only club in the league to experience such a lengthy Monday night hiatus. The team's last MNF tilt was in 2001, where then-head coach Marty Mornhinweg's bunch lost 35-0 to the St. Louis Rams.

Since that game was hosted at the Pontiac Silverdome, Ford Field will also be making its initial Monday night performance.
