One in, One out; Lions sign 5th rounder Davis

Detroit signed their second draft pick when they inked linebacker James Davis to a three-year contract with terms undisclosed. Davis recorded an impressive 120 tackles for West Virginia and became the Mountaineers' career leader with 39 1/2 tackles for loss.

(ALLEN PARK) - Detroit signed their second draft pick when they inked linebacker James Davis to a three-year contract with terms undisclosed.

Davis, 6-1, 221 is a linebacker from West Virginia who is expected to make the team as a special teams player and a reserve linebacker. He was the Lions second selection in the 5th round. Earlier they signed their other fifth round selection, safety Terrence Holt of North Carolina State.

Davis recorded an impressive 120 tackles for the Mountaineers and became the career leader with 39 1/2 tackles for loss at West Virginia. Detroit also announced that they had released defensive tackle Shawn Lazarus who was attempting to make the team as an undrafted free agent from the University of Michigan.

Lazarus finished his senior season at Michigan by recording 30 tackles, a career best.
