Lions place eight on PUP list; sign two

On the day the team opened up training camp to rookies and selected veterans, the Detroit Lions placed eight players, including defensive end Kalimba Edwards (hernia) and wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim (hip), on PUP. The team also announced the signing of wide receiver T.C. Taylor and defensive tackle David Viger. More details inside.

On Thursday, the Detroit Lions placed the following players on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list: Running back Shawn Bryson (knee), defensive end Kalimba Edwards (sports hernia), wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim (hip), safety Corey Harris (groin), tight end Mikhael Ricks (knee) and linebacker Brian Williams (leg).

The team also placed defensive tackle Luther Elliss (pectoral) and rookie running back Artose Pinner (ankle) on the non-football injury list.

The above players still count against the Lions' 80-man NFL limit, thus are ineligible to practice and will miss training camp until they are activated. Activation can occur at anytime before August 31.

If a player cannot return before August 31, the Lions must either cut, trade, or place the player on the regular season PUP list.
