Tuesday's Training Camp Notes

Exclusive player notes from Tuesday's training camp session, including comments 'Hot Player' of the camp thus far, and comments on new tight end Tywan Mitchell, RB Autry Denson, QB Joey Harrington, and wide receiver Bill Schroeder plus many more, including comments of those who didn't look so hot.

Jameel Powell - CB: The undrafted rookie free-agent out of Cal has quickly become the hottest player on the field. Powell intercepted two passes on Tuesday and returned both for touchdowns. He broke up several passes and displayed tight coverage on wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim among others. Has chance to stick.

Tywan Mitchell - TE: Recently signed tight end has made most of opportunity. Mitchell hauled in two acrobatic receptions, and has caught every ball thrown in his direction. On one play, however, Mitchell made a diving reception and instead of running with the ball, stood up holding the ball (signaling his catch), which did not please head coach Steve Mariucci.

Autry Denson - RB: Fifth-year running back has chance to become the third down back, outplaying his counterparts vying for same position (early observation). Has caught the ball out of the backfield well and runs between the tackles very well.

Reggie Holts - FB: Dropped two balls thrown in his direction and did not block well. Needs to improve play otherwise could face cut.

Luke Staley - RB: Struggling. After spending last season on IR recovering from a knee operation, Staley has not looked good, and seems tentative running the football. Also fumbled once on Tuesday, to the display of Lions' coaches.

Bill Schroeder - WR: The most impressive wide receiver in training camp. No one can cover Schroeder in practice, and he has routinely burned the cornerbacks.

Joey Harrington - QB: Looked sharp in red zone drills. Very accurate and has seemed to pick up the offense well.

Mike McMahon - QB: Did not look sharp in red zone drills. Threw two interceptions and had difficult time finding wide receivers. Twisted ankle but returned to the field rather quickly.

Chris Watson - CB: Made a few good plays on Tuesday, including a few batted balls. Looked steady with good coverage.

Injury Notes: Wide receiver Charles Rogers suffered a dislocated finger. His status is day-to-day. Rookie cornerback Daniel Adams suffered a hamstring pull and did not play.
