Harris was waived by the Bengals shortly after uncorking a 29-yard punt into the wind in overtime against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills took advantage of the great field position to kick a game-winning field goal.
Detroit could have had Richardson (career 41.2 average, 37.7 net) or former Lions punter Mark Royals who sports a career 42.2 average per punt (36.5 net) had they moved sooner.
Instead, Royals was snapped up by the Jaguars after their regular punter Chris Hanson took a chunk out of his leg with an axe used for motivational purposes by new head coach Jack Del Rio.
Harris is sporting a 38.7 (39.9 career) per punt average this season.
