Anderson Cleared; Blades In Trouble

(ALLEN PARK) – It was mixed news for a current and former Lion player in the court today.

For Lions wide receiver Scotty Anderson the news was great. Anderson was cleared of all charges stemming from a false rape charge leveled at him by a 22-year old Detroit woman. Instead, Wayne County prosecutor Mike Duggan indicated that Nicole Milburn would now be charged with filing a false police report in connection with the incident.

Milburn, reportedly alleged that Anderson raped her at a party at his suburban Detroit apartment. The Wayne County prosecutors office says that several hundred dollars in cash and some personal effects of Anderson's came up missing after the party ended. The prosecutor's office says that Milburn used the personal effects of Anderson in an attempt to prove he raped her. In fact, the Prosector's office says that their was never any intimate contact between Anderson and Milburn.

Lions head coach Steve Mariucci indicated that he is not surprised by the turn of events. "We talk about those sort of things quite a bit," said Mariucci, "not just behavior and action on the field but certainly off the field too, because as you know, we live in sort of a fish bowl."

Meanwhile, former Lions great Bennie Blades was not as fortunate. An arrest warrant was issued for Blades in connection with a child abandonment charge as well as a failure to pay child support charge. Michigan State Attorney General Mike Cox said that Blades in nearly $300,000 in arrears. "He is a long-term professional athlete who is currently employed in Florida and he has substantial real estate holdings."

Blades offered to turn himself in to Michigan authorities next week but Cox indicated that was "not acceptable" and issued a warrant for his arrest.
