Olson Joins Lions As QB Coach

The Detroit Lions have hired former Chicago Bears' assistant Greg Olson to become the Lions quarterback's coach. Olson will replace Kevin Higgins, who was a holdover from the Marty Mornhinweg staff.

The Detroit Lions announced Thursday it has added former Chicago Bears' assistant Greg Olson as the team's new quarterback's coach, replacing Kevin Higgins.

Olson, who tutored current San Diego quarterback Drew Brees at Purdue, worked under Lions' head coach Steve Mariucci for one season in San Francisco.

Olson becomes the second assistant hired this week by the Lions, who also hired away 49ers' assistant Pat Morris to replace Carl Mauck as the team's offensive line coach.

Detroit is still interested in hiring former Bears' head coach Dick Jauron as its defensive coordinator, ultimately replacing current DC Kurt Schottenheimer. Jauron, however, is said to be considering an offer as the New York Giants assistant head coach.
