| Lions' insider Mike Fowler
interviews new linebacker Teddy Lehman and RB Kevin Jones
Listen to interviews with Oklahoma linebacker and Detroit's new No. 54 Teddy Lehman, as well as former Virginia Tech speedster and new Lions' running back Kevin Jones. Transcribed available inside as well.
On receiving the No. 54 Jersey
Well, I might have got myself into trouble. It's a big jersey to fill. I had the number in college, so it's really no big deal. I picked it. I was used to it. Again, though, it's a big jersey to fill.
On being comfortable playing the weak side position
I'm comfortable at every position out there, so I'll get more and more comfortable as I go and learn the system
The biggest difference between Oklahoma and NFL
In college, there's some fast guys. But in the NFL, everyone's fast -- across the board. lineman, everyone, so everything you do has to be one step faster.
Where do you think you are at this point with the defense?
Average. Not outstanding, not horrible. It's good that it's only May right now. Alot of time to get better. I'm optimistic about learning the system and getting better.
Is pass defense a strength?
I think so once I figure out the system and figure out adjusting. We run alot of the same defenses. But learning the coaching points are different. The small things are different. Those are the things you have to fine tune. I did it for four years, so it's like learning a new language.
On any similarities between defensive coordinator Dick Jauron and Oklahoma
head coach John Stoopes
I think so, both are real smart, and (they) put you in a great position to make plays.
We report in the middle of May, so I'll be back in the middle of May. I've got a few days off, go back and get into shape. Work on some stuff that I need to take from the mini-camp.
Any concerns on getting a contract done?
No, no way.
KEVIN JONES [Listen]
How's it feel in the NFL so far?
It feels good, it's a little tiresome. Kind of intense. I'm just working hard and trying to get ready for the season
On fitting in with new team
I'm fitting in pretty good. Just trying to learn the offense and learn my role.
On speed bringing new asset to Lions' offense
I definitely feel like that. Some people say I can't go outside, and I really don't outrun anybody. But that's not true. It's about who can do it and who can't. And I try to go out and use what I have to my advantage. When I have to run up the middle, I do, when I have to take it outside, I take it outside.
On learning the passing game, and receiving the ball
I'm picking it up pretty well. I'm just trying to learn the plays. They get me into the passing game every day. The backs do that alot here. It's different, but I like it.
Whether or not the offense is difficult to pick up
I haven't seen a whole lot, but for a rookie there's alot of things. I just have to adjust.
Any concerns on getting a contract done
Definitely not. I'm just trying to be here as soon as possible and get in and bond with my teammates. I don't want to be sitting out.
