Bailey To Have Knee Surgery

Second year star flies to Georgia for procedure on knee

Second-year linebacker Boss Bailey flew to Athens, GA yesterday to have surgery on his sore knee.

Lions officials confirmed that Bailey is in Athens to have surgery on the knee to reduce the swelling and clean up loose cartilege. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Mixon Robinson of the Athens Orthopedic clinic.

The procedure also likely means that Bailey will miss between two and three weeks of the preseason, including next Saturday's contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

However, Bailey could be available for Detroit's final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills if the timetable is correct and would be available to start the season opener on Sept 12th in Chicago against the Bears.

Detroit is expected to move either Teddy Lehman, James Davis or fast rising rookie prospect Alex Lewis to Bailey's strong side position in his absence.

It would appear that Lewis would have the inside track. Right up until today, Lewis has unexpectedly pushed second year player James Davis for the weakside linebacker position vacated by departed free agent Barrett Green.
