After finding a new way to lose Sunday at Tampa Bay, the Detroit Lions found new a way to lose a player for the season.
Backup safety Tommy Bennett, who was claimed of the Arizona Cardinals waivers earlier this year, has been suspended for the remainder of the year for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Bennett played admirably earlier in the season for starting safety Kurt Schulz.
What makes the story even more unfortunate is that Bennett, a six-year veteran, was incognizant of the fact that the drugs were illegal, according to head coach Marty Mornhinweg.
"Tommy did not know he was receiving a banned substance," said Mornhinweg.
Bennett received the shot of illegal steroids into his hamstring after experiencing pain and discomfort. The shot was performed by Bennett's personal doctor.
