The Detroit Lions will wine and dine two St. Louis Rams' free-agents this week, and one of them could come to terms as early as Tuesday.
Rams' wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim, one of the more sought after -- yet greatly scrutinized -- wide receivers available, will visit with Lions' GM Matt Millen on Tuesday. Because the two sides have had consistent contact, it is assumed that the ball club is leading the pack of several teams attempting to acquire Hakim.
The Rams, however, are not among that group.
St. Louis has all but declared forfeit in attempting to re-sign Hakim, who they feel is overpriced for his abilities. Many analysts point to Hakim's inconsistent pass catching -- citing several drops the speedy wide out had last season -- for his criticism. If he can catch the ball consistently, Hakim's speed and quickness would blend into Detroit's west coast offense seamlessly.
On Thursday, Hakim's teammate, linebacker London Fletcher, will also meet with the Lions.
Fletcher's visit will come after a tour stop at Buffalo on Tuesday, but his visit is a bit odd because the fifth-year veteran's primary position is at middle linebacker, a spot that third-year player Chris Claiborne secured following the release of Stephen Boyd.
St. Louis has no plans of re-signing Fletcher
