It didn't take the Detroit Lions long to make their splash in free-agency.
According to league sources, the Lions have agreed to a 5-year deal with Miami Dolphins free-agent strong-safety Brian Walker. Walker, who provided a vital role in a formidable Dolphins defense last season, was second on the team in tackles (99) despite missing three starts due to injury (thumb).
Walker was considered among the elite available defensive backs, and helps shore up an injury depleted secondary. Current Lions' strong safety Ron Rice's career may be in doubt with Detroit due to the signing. It was rumoured the Lions would cut Rice if they found an adequate replacement via free-agency.
Walker seems to fit that bill, although it didn't come cheap.
Walker's deal is worth a reported $10 million, including a $2 million signing bonus.
The ball club will meet with Rams' free-agent WR Az-Zahir Hakim on Tuesday, and MLB London Fletcher on Thursday.
