There usually isn't much anticipation before an NFL season schedule is announced.
But prior to the NFL's releasing of its 2002 schedule, the 4:00 p.m. (EST) announcement time drew as much attention as any past schedule briefing. Mainly because it is a completely different league.
On Thursday, the NFL unveiled its new 32-team, eight-division schedule, which witnssed the berth of divisions such as the NFC North and NFC South and the demise of the long-time NFC Central. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a long-time nemesis and divisional foe of the Detroit Lions, have been moved to the new NFC South.
The Seattle Seahawks have been moved to an entire different conference, switching from the AFC Central to the NFC West.
Below is the new NFL divisional format.
|AFC EAST||NFC EAST|
|AFC NORTH||NFC NORTH|
|AFC SOUTH||NFC SOUTH|
|AFC WEST||NFC WEST|
|Kansas City||St. Louis|
