ALLEN PARK - Lions defensive tackle Shaun Cody is licking his chops. He's ready to get his pro career started and he can't think of a better place than New York City...except, well the New York Jets don't play in New York City and it the games don't really count. After all, it's the preseason.

None of that matters to Cody whose enthusiasm on the field carries over off the field. This is a guy who understands where he is and is genuinely happy to be here.

Scout.com's Mike Fowler talked to Cody about his thoughts leading up to tonight's preseason opener against the New York Jets in the Meadowlands.

On what he expects in his first preseason game:
"A tough physical game. It's my first game as a rookie and first time at 'game speed' in an NFL game. It's going to be fast and fun. I'm excited to get back on the football field and start playing football again."

On his excitement level:
"We've been hitting each other for a while and I'm ready to hit somebody else I'm ready to go."

On the skirmish in practic on Wednesday:
"You can definitely feel the tension when you're walking around the locker room and when you're walking around the field, the tension is starting to build. We're ready to hit somebody else in the mouth and get after it. That's a good sign going into our first game."

Has he ever played in front of the New York media?
"No I haven't, this is my first time.

On how much he's expecting to play:
"I know I'm going to be playing a lot. The 'ones' are going to get 15-to-20 plays and then the 'two's' are going to be in there. I'm running with the 'two's' right now so I know I'm going to be in there for some plays. My 'winds' ready and we're going to see how [close to] game condition I am."

On whether he prefers playing tackle or end:
"No, I like the inside. I'm a physical player, that's my game, that's what suits me the best..inside. With "Big Baby" next to me in our nickle package, I'm going to get a chance to get some single blocks and hopefully make some plays."

On what he takes away from Dan Wilkinson and Shaun Rogers:
"Playing next to "Big Daddy" and "Big Baby" has been such a privilege. I'm just trying to be like a sponge out there and soak up all the information that they're trying to hand down to me and just play as hard as I can and try to get into that rotation."

If there's Big Daddy and Big Baby, what does that make him?
"Little Cody."
