The obvious injury, a hamstring strain suffered by placekicker Jason Hanson, is the most complicated. Not necessarily the extent of Hanson's injury, which is still undetermined (he is still considered day-to-day), but because it puts Detroit's kicking game in a precarious situation.
The Lions are considering a myriad of options, among them trying out a veteran kicker for longer requirements, punter Nick Harris as a temporary replacement, even center Dominic Raiola has demonstrated a serious interest. Or, if Hanson's leg continues to heal, the Lions might be just fine. A signing or decision likely won't be made until Friday.
The news on cornerback Fernando Bryant (jaw) is good. Bryant left the game in the first half, injuring himself on the same play that ended Packers' WR Javon Walker's season (torn ACL).
"We X-rayed his jaw and his chin last night and there is no break in his jaw which is really good news," said Mariucci, who believed Bryant could return to practice as early as Wednesday. "He is pretty sore and he is not chewing on gum or anything right now.
"The good news is that he does not have a broken jaw."
Meanwhile, reserve linebacker Alex Lewis played sparingly after suffering a sprained ankle on the opening kick-off. Lewis was in the game for just one play, and has been listed as day-to-day.
Fellow linebacker Teddy Lehman, nagged by knee problems since late in the preseason, has been upgraded to questionable for Sunday's tilt with Chicago.
Lehman missed the last two preseason games and the season opener, but Mariucci said the second-year player is coming along just fine.
"He's getting closer," said Mariucci
