ALLEN PARK -- University of Toledo standout Antonio Malone (6-0, 200) will be in attendance during Detroit's rookie minicamp this weekend. He was signed as an undrafted rookie free-agent this week by the Lions, who also inked undrafted Iowa State cornerback Lamarcus Hicks (6-0, 190) to help fill the defensive backfield.
Malone was slated as a fourth-to-sixth round pick, but a poor senior year and less-than-impressive Pro Day dropped his stock considerably. Hicks was not expected to be drafted, although he runs a 40 time of 4.7.
40: 4.59 Year: 4Sr Vertical Jump: 34 inches
Bio: Three-year starter who posted 38/1/9 as a senior after 53/2/4 the prior year.
Pos: Feisty cornerback with excellent size/speed numbers. Jams opponents at the line, is quick in transition and fast in every direction. Has closing and recovery speed as well as above-average ball skills.
Neg: Prefers to side-shuffle down the field and does not quickly break to the throw. Slow reading receivers' eyes and getting his head back around to locate the ball.
Analysis: Coming off a disappointing senior campaign, Malone is a solid athlete who will be developed on a practice squad.
