Lions vs Browns: Key To Watch

Offensive tackle Kerlin Blaise, veteran defensive tackle Luther Elliss, quarterback Joey Harrington and two rookie cornerbacks are among several Lions that the fans should keep their eye on Saturday night as Detroit battles the Cleveland Browns.

Carefully watch the play of Kerlin Blaise, substituting for Stockar McDougle at right tackle. Blaise appeared overmatched in practice early, but then began becoming more confident and effective. Blaise is relishing the opportunity to get on the field any way he can. In his five-year career, the former Miami standout has started only four games.

Defensively, the Lions can't ask for much more than they got out of their defense last week. Baltimore's only touchdown was scored on a interception of Joey Harrington. With Luther Elliss back and playing at full strength, one can only wonder how effective this unit will be when they get back super-rookie Shaun Rogers. Rogers was a one-man wrecking crew last season and he and Elliss could be the best defensive tackle tandem in football.

Veteran cornerback Terry Fair will not play in this contest, but could play next week in the opener of Ford Field. Fair is expected to come off PUP on Monday. Rookie's Andre Goodman and Chris Cash will get extensive playing time as their roles on the roster will be debated. One will get the nickle back spot and will play a lot during the season. The other will be relegated to dime package stuff, so the fight is critical. Right now, Goodman appears to be the more consistent of the two.
GAMETIME UPDATE: Andre Goodman has been ruled out of tonight's game with an ankle injury.
