Notebook: Who's in at center? Who's hurt? And more

Lions' insider Mike Fowler clues us in on the center position battle between Eric Beverly and Dominic Raiola (who won?), injury notes regarding wide receiver Bill Schroeder, Victor Rogers, and Jared DeVries. Also, two former Lion rookies are making impacts elsewhere. Plus more!

Dominic Raiola beat out Eric Beverly for the starting center job and recently signed veteran Ray Brown has won the starting right guard job. Tony Semple will stay at left guard, Kerlin Blaise will be the starting right tackle until Stockar McDougle is healthy.

Running back Jonas Lewis' cut means that fellow rookie James Mungro has a huge opportunity to make the team.

Tight end John Waerig's cut means both rookie tight ends, John Owens and Matt Murphy, have made the team.

Did you see former Lions' safety (and current Green Bay Packer) Todd Franz pick off a pass and score against the Browns last night? Also, Alfonso Boone, another Lion draft pick of last season signed a long term deal with the Chicago Bears.

Lions' wide receiver Germane Crowell has been placed on IR and will be out six weeks, along with defensive lineman Anothony Herron. Wide receiver Bill Schroeder still is hobbled, and now has a hip pointer. He could miss Thursday's pre-season finale at Buffalo. Victor Rogers (leg) is on IR and will now miss the remainder of the regular season. Defensive end Jared DeVries is OK, his shoulder injury suffered last week was just a stinger.
