Lions Bytes Blog: 14 sacks or gone?

Does Kalimba Edwards need to reach 14 sacks to keep his job in Motown? Apparently that's what Kalimba Edwards thinks he has to do in order to stay with the Lions beyond this season. Senior writer Mike Fowler reports from training camp into his RoarReport.com blog. [Audio interviews with Kalimba Edwards and coach Rod Marinelli inside]

Fourteen sacks or he's gone?

Apparently that's what Kalimba Edwards thinks he has to do in order to stay with the Lions beyond this season.

I wanted to blog about this because no one has mentioned anything about this in the three dailies and I felt it was a story that was flying under the radar.  Rod Marinelli had mentioned in his opening press conference that Kalimba Edwards was a guy he 'was going to ride.'  You may have heard his quote when he said "he's got the saddle on and I'm in the saddle."  I asked Kalimba about this and he felt he had to get double digit sacks or he was gone.

I followed up with Coach Marinelli to see if he REALLY expected Kalimba Edwards to have double-digit sacks, something he's never done in his career.  Marinelli confirmed that Kalimba was going be under the gun to get to the QB and he would not back away from his expectations.  And he delivered a left-handed compliment to yours truly.
