Everyone doubted the Detroit Lions except themselves.
On Sunday, rookie quarterback Joey Harrington tossed for 267 yards on 20-of-35 passing, including one touchdown and zero interceptions. The 26-21 victory handed the Lions their first win of the regular season, meanwhile giving the previously undefeated New Orleans Saints their first loss.
Lions' place kicker Jason Hanson paced Detroit by connecting on all four of his field goals, including a 38-yard boot.
Harrington, who entered the contest completing just 40% of his passes, highlighted the afternoon with a 38-yard touchdown completion to wide receiver Bill Schroeder. Lions' running back James Stewart, who rushed for 65 yards on 18 carries, earned 37 of those yards on a late fourth quarter scamper that ultimately ended the contest.
The Lions have an off-week before going to Minnesota to battle the 0-2 Vikings on October 13.
