Report: Lions fire Mornhinweg

WDFN, a local radio station in Detroit, has reported that Lions' head coach Marty Mornhinweg has been relieved of his duties. Mornhinweg was apparently fired to make room for Steve Mariucci, the former head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

LionsFans.com has learned that head coach Marty Mornhinweg has been relieved of his duties as head coach, according to a local Detroit radio station (WDFN).

The firing comes just one week after a web site (insidetheleague.com) reported that Millen would fire Mornhinweg following the Super Bowl, and would hire former 49ers' head coach as a replacement.

Following the report, the Detroit Lions immediately announced a press conference scheduled for 3:30 PM (EST). LionsFans.com will have coverage of the press conference immediately following the event.

In just two seasons under Mornhinweg, the Lions have tallied just 5 wins versus 27 losses, and failed to win a road game. Following the 2002 season, Mornhinweg was promised his job by Millen, a promise that apparently will not materialize.
