And again, Lions coach Jim Schwartz was noncommittal.
"No, the decision hasn't been made yet," said Schwartz, who did admit that Stafford's health had improved. "We've got a long way to go before Sunday. There's definitely ground that needs to be covered between now and then."
Lions trainers are keeping an eye on Stafford's right knee and whether or not it swells due to the increased activity.
So far, so good.
The same couldn't be said for receiver Calvin Johnson, who was hobbled by a knee injury of his own. Although there isn't any structural damage to Johnson's knee, it's sore enough to prevent the third-year receiver from practicing with the ball club.
Although Schwartz said Johnson was making progress, he is expected to miss Sunday contest, which led the Lions to bring back receiver John Standeford as insurance.
The five-year veteran spent a portion of 2008 with the ball club, but was cut during training camp.
"We know what John can do," said Schwartz. "He's in a position that he can go play right away. I wouldn't term him ‘emergency' or anything like that. He's a guy that can go make plays for us and I know he'll be ready if he has to."
But Schwartz did admit that Johnson's absence will undoubtedly affect the team's game plan against the Packers.
"To some extent sure, because it changes how defenses play," he said. "That's a huge dynamic in the game that defensive coordinators need to account for and things like that. It affects the way they play defense.
"Therefore, it'll affect the way we play offense."
The Lions did welcome the healthy returns of starting right tackle Gosder Cherilus and rookie TE Brandon Pettigrew

The team inked DE Robert Henderson to the practice squad, dropping DB Deandre Wright.
