5-game preseason schedule is set

The Green Bay Packers today released their five-game preseason schedule. The first three games will be played away from home which will give workers enough time to put the finishing touches on the renovated Lambeau Field for the final two exhibition games and regular season opener.<p>

The $295 million renovation project is expected to be completed in time for the Packers' first home exhibtion on Saturday, Aug. 23 against the Carolina Panthers. The Packers will host the Tennessee Titans five days later (Thursday, Aug. 28) before the regular season home opener, which is expected to be at Lambeau Field. The Packers have petitioned the National Football League to open the regular season at home, most likely against the Chicago Bears. Green Bay opened then-named City Stadium against the Bears in 1957. The Bears also have reportedly asked the league to allow them to open their season at the renovated Soldier Field against the Packers.

The Packers open the exhibition season on Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs in the annual Hall of Fame game at Canton, Ohio, on Aug. 4. That game will be followed by a pair of back-to-back road engagements for the Packers – Aug. 9 at Atlanta and Aug. 15 at Cleveland. This will mark the fourth straight year that the Packers and Browns have met in the preseason.

Two of Green Bay's five exhibition games will be on national television. The Aug. 4 game is on ABC and the Aug. 15 game is on CBS. The Atlanta, Carolina and Tennessee contests will be televised by Green Bay's WFRV-TV in conjunction with Milwaukee's WTMJ-TV over an expanded, eight-station network throughout the state of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. In addition to WFRV and WTMJ, the games will be televised over WKOW/ABC, Madison, Wis.; WAOW/ABC, Wausau/Rhinelander, Wis.; WXOW/ABC, La Crosse, Wis.; WQOW/ABC, Eau Claire, Wis.; WYOW/ABC, Eagle River, Wis.; and WJMN/CBS, Marquette, Mich.

All five exhibition games begin at 7 p.m. CT.
