Offense, Offense (And Some Defense)

Packers general manager Ted Thompson's 10-player draft haul had a decidedly offensive-minded focus. The first three picks and four of the first five were spent on offense, with only a pick-for-the-future cornerback interrupting the early trend.

During the Scouting Combine, just a couple weeks removed from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy was asked how his offense can get better.

"Score more points," McCarthy replied.

General manager Ted Thompson swears it wasn't by design, but his picks in each of the first three rounds potentially will provide McCarthy with the firepower to upgrade the 10th-ranked scoring attack in the NFL.

"Well, there was definitely that feeling in the draft room for a while. I think it got to a point where we felt we needed to pick a defensive player because we were feeling a little guilty," McCarthy joked Saturday, when the team finally selected a defender.
