The Green Bay Packers have claimed strong-legged placekicker Owen Pochman on waivers from the New York Giants today.<p>
The left-footed Pochman, a third-year pro, was a kickoff specialist for the Giants in 2001. He was on injured reserve last year with a knee injury. In 10 games overall in 2001, Pochman kicked off 45 times with two touchbacks. He kicked off five times against the Packers in the 2001 finale.
Pochman, 6 feet and 180 pounds, made a 56-yard field goal as a senior at Brigham Young University.
Pochman was a seventh-round draft selection of the New England Patriots in 2001. He was waived in training camp and claimed by the Giants. He will compete against Ryan Longwell when the Packers open training camp in mid-July.
