In 2012, House has put himself in position to be on the field for practically every defensive snap.
House lined up as the third cornerback at Tuesday's training camp practice. That's going to be an every-down position, whether it's nickel, when the Packers use three corners, or base, when the third corner will stay on the field as Charles Woodson moves to safety.
"There's no starting jobs that are being won today," cautioned coach Mike McCarthy. "We are installing (the playbook). Some players are performing better than others. House is definitely an improved player since last year. We talked about that after yesterday's practice. I really like what Davon is going. He's extremely physical. With his body structure, he should be a very good bump-and-run player and he's playing to that strength. He's off to a good camp. He's clearly a different player this year than he was last year, no doubt."
Active PUP list: The list is unchanged since the first day of camp, with FB John Kuhn (knee); ILB Desmond Bishop (calf), OLB Frank Zombo (hamstring), DL Johnny Jones (knee), G Jaymes Brooks (hamstring), T Derek Sherrod (leg) and TE Andrew Quarless (knee). Bishop and Kuhn might be activated by the end of the week, McCarthy said.
Returning: TE Jermichael Finley (concussion). "Jermichael is such a playmaker. It's great to have him back."
The week ahead
Wednesday will be the last of the 8:15 a.m. practices before McCarthy flips the players' body clocks. The team will practice at 7 p.m. on Thursday, with Family Night starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. After an off day on Saturday, the team will practice at 7 p.m. on Sunday and Monday and 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Practice is closed to the public and media on Wednesday, with the first preseason game at 7 p.m. on Thursday at San Diego.
-- McCarthy had strong words of praise for third-year starting safety Morgan Burnett. "I think he'll definitely be someone that they'll be talking about throughout the league. I think that he's ready for that type of season."
-- Defensive end Jarius Wynn intercepted a screen pass from Aaron Rodgers. A few plays after he missed a leaping interception in the end zone, Morgan Burnett had an interception when Donald Driver either stumbled or was knocked to the ground.
-- The No. 1 and No. 2 offenses scored touchdowns on two-minute drills to end practice. Rodgers found Driver from about 18 yards on third-and-3 and Graham Harrell hit Tori Gurley, who made a juggling touchdown catch on a back-shoulder throw against Sam Shields.
-- With Pickett out, Jerel Worthy got his first reps as a defensive end with the No. 1 defense. He joined end C.J. Wilson and nose tackle B.J. Raji. With Zombo out, Brad Jones continues to get all of his work at outside linebacker. He was moved to the inside this past spring.
