Vanderlin Out in Practice Squad Moves

Green Bay released Drew Vanderlin and Chris Scott and signed Southern University defensive tackle Jordan Miller.

The Green Bay Packers' signing of Drew Vanderlin to the practice squad was a great story.

A story, it turns out, that lasted just one week.

The Packers released Vanderlin, a defensive end and Green Bay native, and guard Chris Scott from the practice squad on Tuesday, according to the league's transaction wire and later announced by the team. They filled one of those spots by signing Jordan Miller, a 6-foot-1, 309-pound defensive tackle from Southern University who went undrafted in 2011.

In 2011, Miller spent training camp with Chicago and spent most of the season on its practice squad until being promoted to the 53-man roster for the season finale. Miller spent training camp this summer with the Bears but didn't make the team.

In his blog as the executive director of the Black College Football All-Star Game, Tabor Small wrote, "The first thing that stood out to me was his explosive first step and quickness off the ball. He stays low out of his stance and gets good leverage at the point of attack; he's also very active with his hands and displays good strength while holding his gap."

At the HBCU Bowl Combine, Small said Miller put up 30 reps on the 225-pound bench press and ran a 40-yard time of 5.1 seconds. (Here's a video from his pro day).

A walk-on at Southern, Miller had 5.5 sacks and 11 tackles for losses as a junior and nine sacks and 15 tackles for losses as a senior.
