Interview transcript

Take me through your offer. How did it go down? Which coach offered you?

"It was defensive coordinator Rick Smith," Roseboro said. "He came down and told my coach that he was offering me a full ride. He talked about getting me down there and was looking forward to me visiting soon."

What do you know about ECU?

"One of our former players here at Lincolnton, Michael Cunningham, was looking to go there so he told me some stuff. I know they're moving to the AAC (American Athletic Conference) soon. I've seen them play on TV a lot and of course I know about Chris Johnson."

Have you ever visited?

"I haven't visited yet," Roseboro said. "I plan on making it out there in June probably towards the end of the month. I'm going to have a busy summer."

What are you planning on studying in college? Does ECU stack up well academically?

"I know they have one the best sports medicine facilities. I plan on double majoring in sports management and criminal justice in college. ECU offers both of those majors."

As a freshman, you had 107 tackles, seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss. As a sophomore, you had 108 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, eight sacks, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. Talk about those two seasons. What are your goals for your junior campaign?

"I plan on increasing my stats every year." Roseboro said. "I have to get better every year to prove that I can excel at the next level. I plan on working hard to improve my tackles for loss and sacks. I need high stats in both of those categories to continue getting looks."

What's it like to be receiving this much attention as a sophomore?

"It's exciting, but I have to stay humble to get where I want. I'm going to keep my options open since it's still early on. I will go down to ECU and evaluate the on-field and off-the-field benefits. It's extremely important for me to have a school that offers both; it's not just about football."

What schools have really been pursuing you of late?

"I've heard from Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Michigan (offered), Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Clemson (offered), Indiana, Nebraska, LSU and Wisconsin. I think I should have an offer from Tennessee soon and eventually South Carolina, Georgia and LSU. But I'm not that certain about it."

What's your plan for summer camps and combines?

"I plan on getting out to all of those schools that are interested in me if possible," Roseboro said. "I want to spend time with my team (Lincolnton); I'm going to camp with them to build chemistry and work on defense. Winning a state ring is what's most important for me. I'm happy about all my offers, but I'm going to stay focused."

After hearing from all these big-time programs, where does ECU rank for you?

"Right now I can't really say. I'm interested in all of the schools that are interested in me. I'm highly interested in them (ECU), but the visit will help. I want to get there and experience it, meet the people, the coaches and the players."

When do you plan on committing?

"I'm going to commit at the end of junior year," Roseboro said. "I plan on early enrolling senior year so I can get to my school and get comfortable before the season starts."

Final thoughts

Darian Roseboro is a talented defensive-end hearing from a multitude of big-time programs. His consistency and improvement between his freshman and sophomore seasons has many coaches salivating over the thought of his signature. Roseboro has plenty of time to make his decision and it could be a lengthy process with so many schools contacting him. He would be a huge pickup for ECU and his big body would be a force for stopping the run and terrorizing quarterbacks. His offers include Clemson, Duke, Michigan, UNC Chapel Hill, N.C. State, Virginia and now ECU. Roseboro agreed to contact me after his visit to the Pirate Nation.
