In perhaps the play of the day, Rodgers made a tremendous one-handed catch of a ball that either was deflected at the line of scrimmage or came fluttering out of the right hand of quarterback Scott Tolzien.
"Big-time catch today," coach Mike McCarthy said. "I just think he's a natural in space. I'm excited to see him when we get into the in-line work into training camp, but as far as all of the movement, playing in space, picking up the scheme, I think Richard's off to a very good start."
Rodgers, for what it's worth, formed the tandem with fullback John Kuhn when the No. 1 offense worked out of its inverted wishbone.
Another tight end, Ryan Taylor, made a juggling catch of a deep pass by Tolzien that appeared to be tipped by rookie safety Tanner Miller.
Out: WR Chris Harper, CB Jumal Rolle, RB Johnathan Franklin, OLBs Clay Matthews and Nick Perry, TE Andrew Quarless, DE Jerel Worthy.
Rolle did participate in the final period of the day, a noncompetitive period in which the defense runs through plays against a "look" team of defenders masquerading as offensive players. Worthy attended practice after being away for the past two weeks due to the accidental shooting of his grandmother.
Returned since last week: TE Colt Lyerla, NT B.J. Raji, TE Brandon Bostick. Bostick participated for the first time since season-ending foot surgery in December.
