Wednesday was the Green Bay Packers’ 10th practice of training camp. Guion (hamstring) and Worthy (back) still haven’t been cleared by the training staff.
Time is running short, with only seven true practices remaining in training camp. However, the Packers aren’t exactly overflowing with depth. B.J. Raji, Mike Daniels, Datone Jones and Josh Boyd are the top four players in the rotation. Third-round pick Khyri Thornton hasn’t done much in the first week-and-a-half, and undrafted rookies Mike Pennel, Carlos Gray and Luther Robinson haven’t consistently shown they’re ready, either.
“I have no concern about depth because I think it’s a great opportunity for the younger guys, and I think they’re taking full advantage of it,” McCarthy said. “Guion, I don’t really have a feel. He will not be available this week.”
Starting safety Morgan Burnett, meanwhile, is “day to day” with a strained oblique, McCarthy said.
McCarthy didn’t know if Burnett would be able to play in Saturday night’s preseason opener against Tennessee. It certainly wouldn’t be a surprise for Burnett to watch the game from the sideline, both as a safety precaution and as a way to get more reps for Micah Hyde and HaHa Clinton-Dix. They’re not only battling to be the starter opposite Burnett, but Hyde is in his first year at safety and Clinton-Dix is a rookie.
McCarthy also confirmed a report that Barclay tore his right ACL and will be lost for the season.
