Injury Report: Bulaga Questionable

Right tackle Bryan Bulaga is listed as questionable while inside linebacker Brad Jones has been ruled out of Sunday's game vs. the Jets.

Right tackle Bryan Bulaga is listed as questionable and inside linebacker Brad Jones has been ruled out for the Green Bay Packers’ game against the New York Jets.

Under the team’s new practice format, the Packers didn’t practice on Friday. By rule, the team had to submit an injury report, anyway, so Bulaga, who sustained a left knee sprain during the second quarter at Seattle, was listed as limited participation – like he had been on Wednesday and Thursday.

“He needs to go out and be able to do the move-the-ball segment and show that he can go through and sustain a drive,” coach Mike McCarthy said of Saturday’s practice. “(That) would be usually what you’re looking for when you have someone coming off that type of injury.”

If Bulaga’s status changes, the injury report will be updated on Saturday.

Jones played the entire game but aggravated a calf injury originally sustained early in training camp. While McCarthy mentioned Jamari Lattimore and Sam Barrington as possible replacements, the team will likely go with Lattimore. Lattimore started four games last season and was Jones’ replacement during training camp.

Though it’s Week 2 and there’s a long season ahead for a team that harbors championship aspirations, McCarthy said he wouldn’t act conservatively with Bulaga or any of the injured players.

“I think sometimes we may have done that in the past,” McCarthy said. “I think our medical department tilts that way, but the reality is you’re only given 16 games and I know from a player’s perspective, they want to play in every single game. If Bryan Bulaga feels that he can go in this game, that’ll be a part of the decision. But we’re not saving anybody for next week or so forth. If Bryan cannot go, it will be clearly from a medical standpoint that we don’t feel it’s in his best interest.”

If Bulaga can’t play, Derek Sherrod would get the start at right tackle. He allowed two sacks against Seattle but will be playing at home and with a week’s worth of practice reps to get ready.

“He’s getting better in practice,” McCarthy said. “He has some distinct things that he needs to continue to work on, and we’re doing that. But I have a lot of confidence in Derek.”

For the Jets, last year's first-round pick, top cornerback Dee Milliner, is probable with an ankle injury. He had been sidelined for a month.
