Packers-Panthers Injury Report: Thursday

Datone Jones’ comeback from an ankle injury has been disappointingly slow, decreasing the chances that he plays for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday against Carolina.

Jones, a starting defensive end, sustained the ankle injury against Minnesota on Oct. 2. He was listed as questionable for last week’s game at Miami but didn’t play. After being limited participation on Wednesday, Jones was held out of Thursday’s full-pads practice.

“He’s not recovering as fast as we thought. He made some progress at practice Saturday but it’s not coming along,” coach Mike McCarthy said on Thursday.

Cornerbacks Sam Shields and Tramon Williams did not practice for the second consecutive day after dropping out of the Miami game with knee and ankle injuries, respectively. McCarthy said he was not given an update on their potential availability and, repeating what he said on Wednesday, said Williams “is still further ahead” than Shields in his recovery.

For Carolina, star rookie receiver Kelvin Benjamin missed a second consecutive practice with a concussion.
