Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy was tight-lipped Friday about the health of injured defensive starters Sam Shields and Mike Daniels.

Shields, a cornerback, sustained a concussion during the second half of Sunday’s win over New England. He remains in the concussion protocol and was not seen in the Don Hutson Center for the portion of practice open to reporters.

Daniels, a defensive tackle, is “getting better,” McCarthy said. On Thursday, McCarthy called Daniels “day-to-day.” Daniels repeated those words on Friday.

“Good. Day-to-day. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow,” Daniels said. “Still making progress, and that’s the goal. It’s football. It’s part of the game.”

Daniels, who combined with Mike Neal for a sack to kill the Patriots’ final drive, couldn’t recall when the injury happened.

“You saw the last play of the game? I was pretty good during the game. I don’t know when it happened. It’s one of those weird things that just jumped out of nowhere. Just take it day by day.”
