For a player with a concussion, he must pass through five phases, starting with rest. From there, it’s light aerobic exercise, balance training and attending team meetings and film sesssions, continued aerobic exercise and strength training, football-specific activities that do not involve contact and, finally, full clearance from the medical staff. At some point following Step 1 or during Steps 2 or 3, he must pass neurocognitive testing administered by an independent neuropsychology consultant.
“I think Mike is going to be full strength and I think Josh is going to be full strength by Monday,” McCarthy said.
