Here is a look at the statistical milestones and career accolades of TCU's Paul Dawson, who emerged from recent league meetings as the No. 4 inside linebacker in this year's draft class.

Career Notes

As a Texas Christian Horned Frog, Paul Dawson started 18-of-38 games – seven at middle linebacker and 11 at strong-side outside linebacker…At TCU, he recorded 241 tackles (136 solos) with 6.5 sacks for minus 48 yards, 31.0 stops for losses of 122 yards and six quarterback pressures…Caused and recovered three fumbles…Also gained 65 yards with a touchdown on five interceptions and broke up eight passes…Including his freshman season at Trinity Valley College, Dawson appeared in 49 games, totaling 293 tackles (176 solos), adding 10.5 sacks for minus-72 yards, 39.0 stops for losses of 162 yards, as he caused five fumbles, recovered four others, deflected nine passes and picked off six others.

NCAA Career-Record Results: Among active NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision players, Dawson ranks 33rd with an average of 0.82 tackles-for-losses per game…His 241 tackles rank 80th in the group and his average of 6.34 tackles per game rank 76th.

School Season-Record Results: Dawson’s 136 tackles in 2014 tied Floyd Terrell (1987) for 10th on the TCU annual record chart. It was the most tackles by a Horned Frog in a season since Joe Phipps recorded 153 tackles in 1998…His 81 solo tackles as a senior is seventh on the school record chart and the most by a Horned Frog since Phipps’ 95 solo hits in 1998…Recorded 81 yards in losses on 20 stops in the backfield, the 11th-highest total for TCU in a season.

School Game-Record Results: Dawson’s 18 total tackles vs. Baylor in 2014 are the most by a Horned Frog in a contest since Scott Taft set the school record with 30 total hits vs. Texas-El Paso in 1997…His fourteen solo tackles in the 2014 Baylor clash is sixth on the game list and the most since Taft delivered 21 in the Texas-El Paso contest in 1997.


The Walter Camp and USA Today All-American first-team selection received second-team honors from The NFL Draft Report and CBS Sports…The only player in the nation to post at least 100 tackles, five sacks and four interceptions during the 2014 season, he was named All-Big 12 Conference first-team and league Defensive Player of the Year…The senior shifted to strong-side outside linebacker, starting 11 of the 13 games that he appeared in…Led the team with 136 tackles (81 solos), as that total tied for 10th on the school season-record chart while his solo hits rank seventh…His total tackle figures also ranked 14th in the nation, placing eighth in the FBS with his solo tackle totals and with a team-high 20.0 stops for losses of 81 yards (lost yardage is 11th on the school annual record chart)…Delivered six sacks for minus-44 yards and five quarterback pressures, as he scored once on four interceptions for 48 yards in returns…Also deflected five other throws, in addition to recovering three fumbles and causing two others…Had at least ten tackles in nine of his starting assignments…Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his performances vs. Oklahoma and Texas.


Dawson’s first starting assignment at strong-side linebacker saw the senior pick off one pass, deflect another, recover a fumble and post nine tackles (6 solos) vs. Samford…In the Minnesota clash, he delivered 15 tackles (9 solos), taking down Gophers ball carriers four times behind the line of scrimmage, as he caused and recovered a fumble…Added an 8-yard sack vs. Southern Methodist and was named Big 12 Player of the Week after he returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown vs. Oklahoma, as he also made 11 tackles….Dawson’s 18-tackle performance vs. Baylor was the third-highest total by a Horned Frog in a game since Gary Patterson became TCU’s head coach in 2000. Dawson also had two sacks for minus 12 yards and also caused one fumble…Posted 13 hits the next week vs. Oklahoma State, that also had two stops behind the line of scrimmage…

The linebacker was credited with 11 tackles and two stops-for-loss vs. Texas Tech and he registered his fifth consecutive double-digit game, as he produced twelve tackles with a 12-yard sack and picked off a pass vs. West Virginia…Added ten hits with two stops-for-loss vs. Kansas and repeated those numbers the next week vs. Texas…Closed out the regular season with 13 tackles and 1.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage vs. Iowa State…Made eight tackles that included an 8-yard sack vs. Mississippi in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.


Dawson was a member of the Horned Frogs second unit for the first five games before taking over middle linebacker chores for the final seven contests…The junior led the team with 91 tackles (47 solos) and was second on the squad with 10 stops for losses of 26 yards…Assisted on a sack and had one quarterback pressure…Intercepted one pass and deflected three others…His average of 7.58 tackles per game ranked eighth in the Big Twelve Conference.


Dawson’s season-high 17 tackles, including three for loss with a half sack vs. Kansas were the most by a Horned Frog since Jonathan Anderson tallied 17 vs. Brigham Young in 2011. The 17 tackles tied for the fourth-highest total in Gary Patterson's thirteen seasons as TCU's head coach...Dawson entered the Kansas contest with only two tackles for loss in his career, but reached double figures in stops in five of the final seven games...Posted 15 tackles and a pass breakup vs. Baylor and totaled fourteen stops, including two for loss, in the win at Iowa State...Also had two tackles for loss as part of a 13-tackle effort, to go with his first career interception and a pass breakup in the West Virginia game...Added 12 tackles vs. Texas.


Dawson was listed second on the depth chart at middle linebacker during his first season at Texas Christian…The sophomore recorded fourteen tackles (8 solos) with a stop for a 15-yard loss and a forced fumble…Also registered a team-high seven special teams tackles...Totaled six tackles in the season opener vs. Grambling State, his most in a game during the 2012 schedule…Followed with three tackles at Kansas and two vs. Virginia before he turned in two tackles, including one for loss and forced a fumble in the win at West Virginia.


Dawson played for Trinity Valley Community College, helping the Region XIV team by recording 52 tackles (40 solos) with four sacks for minus 24 yards, five quarterback pressures and eight stops for losses totaling 40 yards…Intercepted one pass, as he batted down another toss, recovered one fumble and caused two others.


No major injuries reported during his time at Texas Christian.
