Packers Trade Up, Get QB Hundley

The Packers sent their seventh-round pick to New England to move up 19 spots for the record-setting, dual-threat UCLA quarterback.

The Green Bay Packers traded back into the fifth round, making the bold move of selecting UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley.

The Packers packaged their fifth- and seventh-round selections in a deal with the Patriots. New England called Green Bay, which allowed the Packers move up 19 spots with a minimal cost.

“It’s awesome,” Hundley said during his conference call. Hundley said he had talked to his former teammate, Jonathan Franklin, about quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Hundley said he expected to go in the second or third round, and was hopeful for the first round. Instead, he started watching "Family Guy" to take his mind off the wait.

In 40 starting assignments, the highly effective short-to-intermediate range passer completed a school career-record 837 of his tosses. His 9,966 passing yards rank second and his 75 touchdown passes rank first.


Hundley started all forty games that he appeared in for UCLA, gaining 9,966 yards with 75 touchdowns and 25 interceptions on 837-of-1,241 passes (67.45%), compiling a 151.06 pass efficiency rating…Added 1,747 yards with 30 touchdowns on 479 carries (3.65 ypc) and also caught two passes for 16 yards, including a 7-yard a score vs. Utah in 2013…Also punted twice for 64 yards and recorded three solo tackles, in addition to amassing 11,713 yards in total offense via 1,720 offensive plays, an average of 292.83 yards per game…Was responsible for 105 touchdowns…Turned the ball over ten times on 31 fumbles, as he was sacked a total of 122 times for losses totaling 694 yards…In addition to having 29 of his passes intercepted, the opposition managed to deflect 120 other tosses during his three seasons in the lineup.

NCAA Career-Record Results: Among active Football Bowl Subdivision performers, Hundley ranks fourth with a pass completion percentage of .6745 and is one of only three current players to have amassed at least 1,500 yards rushing and 10,000 yards passing during a career…One of only three Pac-12 Conference players to be responsible for at least 100 touchdowns, his total of 105 is fifth-best among active FBS players…Placed seventh within that group with 837 pass completions, 9,966 yards passing, 1,720 total plays and 11,713 yards in total offense…Ranks eighth with 1,241 pass attempts and 75 touchdown tosses…Ranks tenth with an average of 292.83 total yards per game and is 12th with a 151.06 pass efficiency rating…Only four active quarterbacks have recorded more touchdown runs that Hundley’s 30.

Pac-12 Conference Career-Record Results: On the conference career-record charts, Hundley holds the second spot with his pass completion percentage of .6745, taking over the fourth spots with 1,720 plays for 11,713 total yards and 105 touchdowns responsible for…His pass efficiency rating of 151.06 is sixth-best in league annals, ranking ninth with 837 pass completions and is 13th for both passing touchdowns (75) and yards gained per pass attempt (8.03 yards).

Pac-12 Conference Season-Record Results: Hundley’s 4,095 yards in total offense in 2012 rank ninth and his 3,819 yards in 2013 rank 16th on the league annual record chart…His 3,740 yards passing in 2012 placed 14th on the Pac-12 season list.

School Career-Record Results: Hundley established Bruin all-time records for touchdown passes (75), pass completions (837), total plays (1,720), yards gained/total offense (11,713) and touchdowns responsible for (105), breaking the previous records that were set by Cade McNown (68 touchdown passes, 694 pass completions, 1,563 total plays, 10,708 yards in total offense)…His 1,241 pass attempts and 9,966 yards passing are surpassed on the school charts by McNown (1,250 attempts, 10,708 yards; 1995-98)…One of just five Bruins to throw for 6,000 yards in a career, as he is joined by McNown, Drew Olson (8,532; 2002-05), Cory Paus (6,877; 1999-02) and Tom Ramsey (6,168; 1979-82)…With 11,713 yards in total offense, Hundley joins McNown (11,285) as the only Bruins to generate at least 10,000 yards during a career.

School Season-Record Results: Hundley holds the school season-record with 3,740 yards passing in 2012 and ranks sixth with 3,071 aerial yards in 2013, followed by securing the fourth spot with 3,155 more in 2014. The previous UCLA record was 3,470 yards by Cade McNown in 1998. McNown also produced 3,142 yards in 1997 (fourth on the list) while Drew Olson tallied 3,198 yards (third) in 2005…His 318 completed passes in 2012 set the school record, securing third place on that chart with 248 successful throws in 2013 while ranking second with 271 completions in 2014. The old record of 242 was set by Drew Olson in 2005. The only other Bruins with at least 200 completions during a campaign are Kevin Craft (232 in 2008), Troy Aikman (228 in 1988) and Tommy Maddox (209 in 1991)… Also holds the top three slots on the school season total offense list, amassing 4,095 yards in 2012, 3,819 in 2013 and 3,799 in 2014. McNown was the previous record-holder, piling up 3,652 yards in 1998.

School Game-Record Results: Hundley is one of two Bruins to gain 400 yards in total offense more than once in a career, generating 429 yards vs. California in 2013 (good for fourth on the list), 404 yards vs. Oregon State in 2012 (ninth), and a trio of 400-yard efforts in 2014 – 424 vs. California (sixth), 427 vs. Arizona State (fifth) and 407 vs. Memphis (eighth). Cade McNown is the other player to accomplish that feat, tallying a school game-record 515 yards vs. Miami in 1998 and holding down the fifth spot with 414 yards vs. Oregon State that season…His 410 yards passing vs. California in 2013 was the third-highest game total by a Bruin, topped by McNown’s 513 yards vs. Miami in 1998 and Drew Olson’s 510 yards vs. Arizona State in 2005…His 31 pass completions in each of the 2012, ’13 and ‘14 California clashes tied Olson (vs. Washington State in 2005) for fourth on the school game chart, surpassed by Troy Aikman (32 vs. Southern California in 1988) and Richard Brehaut (33 vs. Arizona State in 2010), as Hundley’s 33 completions in the 2014 Memphis clash tied the record he now shares with Brehaut…Hundley’s 47 pass attempts vs. California in 2012 tied Cade McNown (vs. Southern Cal in 1996) and Tommy Maddox (vs. Michigan in 1990) for sixth place on the team game-record chart.


Hundley received All-American honorable mention and All-Pac 12 Conference second-team honors, as the first quarterback in school history to produce at least nine victories in three consecutive seasons was also a finalist for both the Manning Award and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award...The team co-captain and Davey O'Brien Award semifinalist established a new school record for touchdown passes in a career at Washington (ended with 75), as the junior completed 271-of-392 passes (69.13%) for 3,155 yards, 22 touch-downs and only five interceptions, adding 644 yards and ten scores on 159 carries (4.05 ypc)…Caught one pass for nine yards and recorded two solo tackles, but had two bad snaps from center along with eleven more fumbles, as he was sacked 35 times for losses totaling 191 yards, as he also had 43 passes defended (five thefts and 38 break-ups)...He threw for over 300 yards in five games with a best of 396 vs. Memphis...Ran for 100 yards in two games, with a best of 131 yards vs. Arizona…The junior ranked among the nation's top 25 in completion percentage (fourth), completions per game (21st with 20.85), passing efficiency (13th at 152.7), points responsible for (18th at 194), total offense (19th at an average of 292.23 yards per game) and yards per pass attempt (24th at 8.05)...Presented the Kenneth S.
