Three Green Bay Packers starters, receiver Davante Adams, guard T.J. Lang and safety Morgan Burnett returned to practice on Wednesday and were listed as limited participation.
During the portion of practice open to reporters, all three players went through individual drills. For Adams and Burnett, that was tackling and stripping the ball; for Lang, it was working on fundamentals. However, during a seven-on-seven two-minute drill, Adams and Burnett watched from the side. During that period, Lang continued to work with the offensive line.
Afterward, Lang, who injured his right knee during the second quarter of Sunday's win over St. Louis, said he was “pretty confident” that he’d play on Sunday vs, San Diego.
“I did pretty much everything,” said Lang, who wore a brace at practice and will during the game. “It was a pretty light day. Obviously, we didn’t have the pads on or anything, and we only had one team period for about seven plays, so I was out there, I was trying to get everything in. You know, if I’m going to play, then I’m a guy that I feel like I need all the reps during the week and I need to stay on my routine, my preparation routine. It’s going to take me awhile to get used to the brace — I haven’t worn one since college — but as long as it keeps me safe from doing anything further to my knee, then I’ll have to wear it.”
The outlook isn’t quite as rosy for Adams and Burnett.
Burnett has played in only one of the five games. Adams has played only one series in the past three games due to an ankle injury sustained in Week 2 vs. Seattle. After aggravating the injury against Kansas City and missing the last two games, Adams has to weigh his desire to play with using this week and the upcoming bye to fully heal.
“It feels better. It feels a lot better,” Adams said. “We’re getting there. It’s a process, but like I said before I just want to be smart with it.”
Only two players did not practice: outside linebacker Nick Perry (shoulder) and nose tackle B.J. Raji (groin). Before practice, coach Mike McCarthy said Perry was the furthest from returning to action.
“My philosophy is that if they’re healthy, they play,” McCarthy said before Wednesday’s practice when asked about the bye.
Also back at practice was inside linebacker Jake Ryan (hamstring).
Safety Sean Richardson was placed on injured reserve with a neck injury that has his career in jeopardy. The Packers promoted tight end Justin Perillo from the practice squad to fill the spot. Perillo gives the Packers three tight ends behind starter Richard Rodgers and rarely used rookie Kennard Backman.
