Packers Injury Report Changes Impact Key Rookies Montgomery, Randall

On Saturday, the Packers downgraded receiver/returner Ty Montgomery to doubtful and added cornerback Damarious Randall as questionable for Sunday's game at Minnesota.

The Green Bay Packers made four changes to their injury report following Saturday's practice, including downgrading receiver/returner Ty Montgomery to doubtful and adding cornerback Damarious Randall as questionable for Sunday's game at Minnesota.

The change on Montgomery was no surprise. Montgomery, who has missed the past three games with a high-ankle sprain sustained vs. San Diego before the bye, was a full participant on Wednesday but dropped out of Thursday's practice after aggravating the injury.

“He’s just not quite there,” coach McCarthy said on Friday.

Randall (hamstring) could be a big deal. He had moved into the starting lineup in part because of he has tackled so well. Tackling is a big deal with NFL rushing leader Adrian Peterson on the schedule.

"You’ve seen him make a play or two in almost every game he’s been in, which is a good sign," defensive coordinator Dom Capers said.

On the bright side, cornerback/returner Micah Hyde (hip) and guard T.J. Lang (shoulder) were upgraded to probable.

Friday's story: James Starks will get the start for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday but they should have a one-two punch in the backfield with Starks and Eddie Lacy.

They'll also have their quarterback.

Lacy missed last week’s loss to Detroit with a groin injury but has bounced back nicely and is on course to play against the Vikings. He is listed as probable. So, too, is quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who showed up on Wednesday's injury report with an injured right (throwing) shoulder.

“I thought Eddie looked good yesterday,” coach Mike McCarthy said on Friday morning. “I thought Eddie Lacy had one of his better practices. It looks like he’s bouncing back. I’m curious to see what the trainers say today. So far, so good.”

On Thursday, Lacy said he felt good about his day of work in the lone padded practice of the week.

“I felt good today,” he said. “My coach (Sam Gash) said I was moving good, I was looking good. So, it’s a step in the right direction.”

Lacy is part of a super-sized Packers injury report. For the second consecutive week, the Packers have a whopping 15 players listed on the injury report. That’s not only a challenge for a huge game at Minnesota but going forward, with a Thursday night game against Chicago meaning a short week for players to recover.

“I think it just reflects this time of year and I think it definitely reflects this stretch that we’re going through,” McCarthy said. “When you play division games, they’re obviously tough on your players. This game Sunday will be no different with the quick turnaround the next two weeks, too. I think it more just reflects where we are in the season.”

While the injury report is lengthy, only receiver Jared Abbrederis (ribs) is certain to be ruled out. Receiver Ty Montgomery, who has missed the last three games with a high-ankle sprain and left Thursday’s practice early after aggravating the injury, might not play, either. He is listed as questionable. Cornerback Micah Hyde also is questionable.

“He’s just not quite there,” McCarthy said of Montgomery.

Four of the five offensive linemen are on the report, with center Corey Linsley being the exception. McCarthy thought tackles David Bakhtiari (knee) and Bryan Bulaga (knee) and guards T.J. Lang (shoulder) and Josh Sitton (knee) would be listed as probable. Lang, however, went down as questionable.

“I anticipate those guys will get ready to go,” McCarthy said.

For the Vikings, left tackle Matt Kalil is questionable. He was limited on Friday after not practicing earlier this week.
