Smith: Offense 'completely different'

Quarterback Akili Smith has been taking snaps with the third-team offense during scrimmages this week in the Green Bay Packers training camp. Smith is battling Craig Nall and veteran Doug Pederson for a roster spot behind starter Brett Favre.<p>

Smith took a few minutes after practice this morning to answer questions about training camp thus far. Here's what he had to say:

on learning the offense:

"I need to sit back and learn as much as possible from No. 4 right now, watch Favre, (Doug) Pederson and (Craig) Nall and get an idea exactly of what's going on when I get in there."

on how Green Bay's offense differs from Cincinnati's:

"It is completely different. The other offense was the 'numbers system.' This is not the numbers system. This is the West Coast offense. Everything, the verbage and everything you do is completely different. It's going to be a challenge. I don't have a lot of time. So I've got to be ready to live up to the challenge."

On Packers organization:

"Everybody has that winning attitude, an extra hop in their step when you put on that Packer training gear. I'm just happy to be here, be a part of this. We'll see what happens."

on benefit of new situation:

"This is a lot less pressure. Here it's (Brett) Favre until he retires. When I was in Cincinatti, it was me. I'm happy with this situation, and hopefully I'll be here.

"I'm learning right now. We've got to get ready for KC (Kansas City), then we've got four more preseason games after that. Hopefully I'll be able to go out there and have a good showing."
