Richard Rodgers vs. Tight End Class of 2014

Here's where Green Bay Packers tight end Richard Rodgers stacks up with the rest of the 10-man tight end class from the 2014 draft.

The Green Bay Packers drafted Richard Rodgers at the end of the third round in the 2014 draft, making the former Cal tight end-turned-wide receiver the sixth tight end off the board.

CLASS OF 2014

Round-PickTeamPlayerSchool
1-10 Detroit Eric Ebron North Carolina
2-38 Tampa Bay Austin Seferian-Jenkins Washington
2-49 N.Y. Jets Jace Amaro Texas Tech
2-52 Arizona Troy Niklas Notre Dame
3-65 Houston C. J. Fiedorowicz Iowa
3-98 Green Bay Richard Rodgers California
3-99 Baltimore Crockett Gillmore Colorado State
5-155 Miami Arthur Lynch Georgia
7-217 Washington Ted Bolser Indiana
7-230 Pittsburgh Rob Blanchflower Massachusetts

Through almost two seasons, Rodgers is easily the most productive player of the 10 tight ends who were selected.

After one-and-three-quarters seasons, Rodgers has caught 68 passes for 664 yards and eight touchdowns. He ranks No. 1 in all three categories. Plus, he has by far the best drop rate among tight ends with more than 20 career receptions.

Entering the 2014 draft, North Carolina’s Eric Ebron was the top pass-catching prospect. Rodgers has Ebron beat in every category other than yards after the catch and yards per reception, and Ebron’s drop rate is the worst in the class.
